Do you sometimes wonder what a good credit score is? If you are on the verge of getting a loan, this question would likely come up in your mind. There is no fixed number that is considered good even though a range of scores may be good for a particular loan. A credit score of 700 may be considered a good one depending on the type of loan you seek.
It is really important that you have a good credit score. If nothing else, you would be able to get loans with low interest rates. Let’s say your credit score is 760. If you get a 30-year fixed mortgage of $300,000, expect to get an interest rate of 4.5% or probably less. You end up paying about $1,520 every month.
What happens if you have a credit score of 620? Don’t even try to get a loan with an interest rate below 6%. That would shoot up your monthly payment to about $1,800 - an extra $280 per month!
It is important that you know what a good credit score is for the type of loan you want. This will help you determine in advance the interest rate to expect. This places you in a better position to bargain with lenders.
With a good credit score, you will not only get low interest loans, but you would also have the liberty to compare one loan to another. Then you can chose the best offer. I would advice you to do this. Never be in haste when scouting for a loan. If you have good credit score, by all means compare one offer to another.
Assuming your credit score is 370, what happens? There is hope, so don’t worry. You would still find lenders who are willing to give you a loan. There is one problem with this, and that is you would have to pay a higher interest rate and put down a large down payment. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you (would anyone find that appealing?), this leaves you with the option of fixing your credit score.
While it is important that you know what a good credit score is, it is equally important that you know how to repair bad credit. Can you read and understand English? Then you can fix your credit score yourself. All you need is the right information. You can raise your credit score really fast if you’re armed with the right information.
